The Most Common Repairs You can Easily Do Yourself
You might not realize it, but there are some repairs that hardly take much time, effort, or special tools. At Gordmay, we believe that the repairs listed below can be managed even by the most amateur DIYer. While it’s always a better idea to hire the services of a professional, if you want to do something yourself, these repairs would be easy to handle.
Fixing a Hole in a Drywall
Drywall is very susceptible to holes. Whether you buy a new home or rent it, there’s always a chance that people that lived there before you have created holes in the wall in high visibility areas. Small holes are very easy to fix. All you need to do is clean the area of any debris, use a putty knife to apply some spackle on it, and then let it dry. After the spackle is dry, you need to sand the surface until it’s even before applying primer to cover the compound, then proceed with a coat of paint. You will likely need to paint the entire wall to ensure it looks uniform. Tip: Try lightly sanding your walls in between coats of paint – this will allow the new coats to adhere better to the surface.

Broken Tile
Tiles can break easily, especially if you drop something heavy on them. However, you don’t really need to call in a professional to handle the problem for you. You can use a grout saw to remove all the grout around the tile. After that, you need to remove the broken tile carefully. If the tile is just cracked, you will need to break it and pick out the pieces. Once the entire tile is removed, you need to clean the adhesive from the previous tile so that the surface is smooth. Then, apply adhesive with your trowel to the back of the new tile and lay into the opening. Once the tile is dry, scrape the residual adhesive from outside edges and then vacuum out the particles. You will need to apply grout – which after drying you will likely notice a difference in color, that the new grout is cleaner looking than surrounding grout. Easy solution! After grout is completely dry, take a bit of dirt (yep, dirt) and rub it around a little.
Scratches on Wood Cabinets
Scratches on the polished surface of wood cabinets are immediately visible and can be very unpleasant to look at. The solution to fix this is very simple. All you need to do is purchase scratch filler with colors matching the finish on your cabinet and rub it on.
There are several other repairs that you can do at home. Things like replacing light switches, unclogging the toilet, cleaning the garbage disposal, etc. can all be handled by an amateur DIYer easily.
At Gordmay, we always recommend that you call in a professional for your home repairs. While working on a DIY project can be satisfactory, the results might not be. You can contact us if you want help. Our number is 613 715 4841. You can also fill in this contact us form.
